Young learner drivers receiving support
Strathbogie Shire Council is seeking mentors and drivers for the L2P Learner Driver Program.
Funded by VicRoads and managed by Shepparton-based family service organisation Berry Street, the program is open to young learner drivers aged 16 to 24 years who have difficulty accessing a car, supervised hours or other difficulties which are standing in the way of achieving their licence.
The program offers learner drivers the use of a car, a mentor and driving lessons.
Learners need to fund their own learners and probationary licences, but all other costs are covered.
There is an opportunity for people to sign up as mentors who are required to help young people gain their driver’s licence.
Mentors are provided with training, a car and petrol, and other supports.
Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Cr Chris Raeburn said the program was a great opportunity for young learner drivers who may have difficulties gaining their driver’s licence.
“We want the young people in our Shire to have equal opportunities when it comes to receiving responsible driver training,” Cr Raeburn said.
“The L2P Program is a great tool and we encourage people who think they may be able to assist with mentoring to get in touch with the program facilitators.”
