Excessive livestock

Community Local Law No.6 and the Strathbogie Shire Council planning scheme controls the number of dogs, cats, livestock and other animals that can be kept on properties within the shire. A local law or planning permit may be required depending on the number of animals to be kept, reason for
keeping them and the property’s planning zoning. Council will be able to advise further if you complete the excess animals/livestock in town pre-application form and send to info@strathbogie.vic.gov.au or PO Box 177, Euroa Vic 3666.

Livestock at large

Livestock wandering on Council roads can be a major traffic hazard and should be reported to Council immediately, 1800 065 993, at any time of day or night. Stock on the following VicRoads roads should be reported to VicRoads on 13 11 70:

  • Hume and Goulburn Valley freeways
  • Avenel-Nagambie Rd
  • Dookie-Violet Town Rd
  • Euroa-Mansfield Rd
  • Euroa-Shepparton Rd
  • Heathcote-Nagambie Rd
  • Murchison-Violet Town Rd
Droving livestock permits

Under Community Local Law No. 6 a person may use a road to move livestock from one part of a farming enterprise to another property that is part of the same farming enterprise, or, from one property to another part of the same property. A permit is required to drove livestock from outside the shire to a property within the shire or to drove through the shire to a property outside of the shire. Conditions apply. To apply for a permit, complete the application for a Local Law permit to drove livestock and return with payment to Strathbogie Shire Council, 109A Binney St/PO Box 177 Euroa VIC 3666.

Grazing livestock permits

Under Community Local Law No. 6 a person must not, without a permit or written consent, graze livestock on any Council land or road. Upon receipt of an application to graze an Authorised Officer of Council will determine the nature of the Council land or road and whether there is enough feed otherwise available.
