Violet Town’s new Local Flood Guide to hit the streets in August

27 Jul 2022

Thanks to a partnership between the Violet Town Action Group (VTAG), the State Emergency service (SES), Country Fire Authority (CFA), Victoria Police and Strathbogie Shire Council will soon be visiting high risk areas of Violet Town to deliver the new Local Flood Guide and Information Pack.

The first edition of the Local Flood Guide (LFG) was delivered throughout Violet Town in 2015.

The new 2022 edition combines the latest flood intelligence and information available from the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority, local knowledge and Emergency Information and Warnings for the Violet Town community.

Other features include a flood map showing a flood similar to the 1993 flood, information about how to prepare your home and business for floods, and what to do and where to find information if a flood happens in Violet Town.

In high risk areas, the Flood Guide Information Pack will be delivered via a house-to-house doorknock with teams from VTAG, SES, CFA, Police and Council starting on Sunday August 7, 2022 from 10am.

Flood Guide “pick-up-points” will still be available after August 7, 2022 at the supermarket, Credit Union and other businesses around town.

Businesses are an important part of any community, and a separate Business Flood Information session will also take place in the coming weeks.

The Violet Town Local Flood Guide is still in its draft stage, so community members still have time to provide feedback, share stories and photos that can help make the guide tell the real Violet Town flood story.

Check out the Flood Map display or grab a draft LFG from the Credit Union.

The near-final draft of the Violet Town LFG is now available on the SES website via www.ses.vic.gov.au/plan-and-stay-safe/flood-guides from the “Local Flood Guide Community Consultation” section.
