Success in local emergency planning
Strathbogie Shire’s communities are becoming more prepared when it comes to emergencies thanks to the LEAPing into Resilience project.
Embraced by each township’s steering group participants and residents alike, the Local Emergency Action Plans (LEAPs) are in the process of being established or have already been completed for five communities in Strathbogie Shire.
Volunteer steering group members in Violet Town, Avenel and Euroa have come together to produce the plans which outline information on preparedness and response to emergencies as well as recovery after emergency events.
Violet Town’s was completed earlier this year and can be accessed via: https://www.strathbogie.vic.gov.au/services/emergency-preparedness/local-emergency-action-plans-leaps/
Council aims to launch Avenel and Euroa’s LEAPs this month with copies available on Council’s website. There will also be a small number of printed copies for those without internet or computer access.
Council recently called for expressions of interest from Strathbogie residents to join the township’s steering group, providing essential local input from the community.
LEAPing into Resilience Planning Officer Danna Lezcano has assisted the steering groups through this process.
The final LEAP to be developed in Strathbogie Shire will be for Nagambie which will take place in the first half of 2024.
This collaborative project is Federally funded, and the responsibility for identified actions are shared between agencies, the community, and the local council.
The municipalities of Strathbogie, Mansfield and Murrindindi joined together to collaborate and assist their communities to be more prepared for the impacts of emergencies, extreme weather events and other disasters.
The LEAPing into Resilience project is a joint initiative between Mansfield, Strathbogie and Murrindindi Shire Councils, funded by the Federal Government.
