Strathbogie Shire Council is extending its heartfelt congratulations to Violet Town’s Robbie Rae for her receiving recognition at the Victorian Senior of the Year Awards.

The community-minded powerhouse received the Council of the Ageing (COTA) Victorian Senior Achiever Award – a true recognition of Robbie’s incredible community spirit.

Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Cr Laura Binks said Strathbogie Shire was incredibly lucky to have a resident like Robbie Rae.

“As her award nomination read, Robbie is a highly respected and dedicated community member in Violet Town, known for her extensive volunteer work spanning over three decades,” Cr Binks said.

She has served as the VICSWIM Regional Coordinator for 32 years, actively supporting the Friends of the Pool Committee and promoting water safety.

Robbie is also a dedicated judge for Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria (Tidy Town) and a member of various groups, including Victoria Volunteers and the CFA.

Her involvement in the Violet Town Bowling Club includes organising fun and educational lawn bowls events for children.

Robbie has also contributed to environmental projects, supported community festivals, and played a significant role in the Violet Town Hall Committee.

Her commitment, awards, and enthusiasm for nurturing community spirit and reducing isolation make her a cherished community leader.

The 2023 Victorian Senior of the Year Awards were announced at a ceremony at Government House on Wednesday 11 October, hosted by Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, Governor of Victoria and Minister for Ageing Ingrid Stitt.

“It is a true testament to Robbie that she was among such amazing award winners and was recognised by the state for her efforts,” Cr Binks said.
