Everest (M), starring Jake Gyllenhaal is one of two free movies screening during Winter Wonderland.

The Winter Wonderland ice skating extravaganza in Nagambie and Euroa will also feature two winter-themed film screenings.

Over two weekend’s this month, Jacobson’s Outlook in Nagambie and the old Gambles Nursery Site in Euroa will transform into a winter wonderland.

Council, Go Nagambie and the Euroa Chamber of Business and Commerce are creating family friendly events that will bring ice skating to Strathbogie Shire.

The weekend in Euroa will feature two free movie screenings at the Euroa Community Cinema.

Everest (M) will screen for free from 7.30pm on Saturday June 18, featuring the story of New Zealand’s Robert “Rob” Edwin Hall, who on May 10, 1996, together with Scott Fischer, teamed up on a joint expedition to ascend Mount Everest.

This will be followed by a free 4pm screening of Happy Feet (G) on Sunday June 19 which is a family-friendly animated film delving into the world of the Emperor Penguins, who find their soul mates through song. A penguin is born who cannot sing; but he can tap dance!

Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor, Cr Laura Binks, said all of the free events were made possible after Council received funding through the Victorian Government ‘s Outdoor Activation Fund.

“We then asked our community what they would like to see, and we heard that fun, family friendly, events were the priority,” Cr Binks said.

“There will be live music, a virtual reality Swiss Alps experience, hot chocolate, photobooths, snow play and much more.”

The Winter Wonderland includes an ice-skating rink, set up with inflatable surrounds, skates, helmets, penguin trolleys for smaller children and experts to fit the skates and give instruction.

A booking system has been established so locals and visitors can all enjoy the fun.

The Winter Wonderland will be held in:

Nagambie on June 11 from 11am to 7pm and June 12 from 11am to 4pm at Jacobson’s Outlook, High Street Nagambie.

Euroa on June 18 from 11am to 7pm and June 19 from 11am to 4pm at the old Gambles Nursery Site from 11am to 4pm.
