Euroa Community Action Group seeks community members
Euroa residents with ideas or time to volunteer to help improve their community are invited to the next meeting of the Euroa Community Action Group on Monday, June 28.
The meeting, to be held at Seven Creeks Hotel from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, is part of the group’s mission to build a strong community network to achieve common goals.
President Laura Baker encouraged individuals and community groups to attend the meeting to learn about current ECAG projects and have input into its 2022 to 2025 strategic plan.
“This is the last year of the current (2018 to 2021) strategic plan and we are building a plan for 2022 to 2025,” Ms Baker said.
“Our focus is on building community networks to support projects so that we can access the right level of funding and project expertise to deliver impact for the community.”
Ms Baker is part of ECAG’s new-look executive committee following the retirement of the previous office bearers at the AGM on May 31.
“We want to thank Scott Watson and Melinda Watson for their awesome job running ECAG. The new committee is excited to meet with everyone and kick-off some impactful projects,” Ms Baker said.
“One of our first initiatives is to establish a community garden by partnering closely with other organisations in town.”
“It will be an edible garden with orchard trees, vegetable patches, and shrubs to attract insects and bees.”
Ms Baker said the new committee looked forward to building on initiatives delivered by its predecessors which included the tiled mural at the Euroa swimming pool, bollards around Seven Creeks Park, supporting the Park Run, and exercise equipment along Apex track.
“There are so many great organisations in Euroa and our role is to be that community connector between organisations so that we can maximise impact in the community,” Ms Baker said.
Strathbogie Shire Mayor Cr Chris Raeburn urged residents and community groups of all backgrounds and interests to share their ideas and opinions at the ECAG meeting on June 28.
“Community action groups in our shire’s five wards provide important reference points for Council and help strengthen community spirit through the initiatives they deliver,” Cr Raeburn said.
“Whether you are a newcomer to Euroa, a long-time local, or involved in other community groups, your ideas and opinions are valuable to shaping the future of Euroa.”
Ms Baker said the group “loved the opportunity to meet with community members at the farmers market at the weekend”.
“We met a lot of passionate people with awesome ideas for our town. It will be great to see our action group community membership grow and we look forward to the upcoming meeting on June 28.”
