Cr Melanie Likos resigns
Strathbogie Shire Council Deputy Mayor Cr Melanie Likos has announced her resignation as a Councillor for the Lake Nagambie Ward due to personal reasons.
Under the Local Government Act 2020 (the Act), the resignation takes effect the day that it is delivered to Council’s Chief Executive Officer and an extraordinary vacancy in the Lake Nagambie Ward now exists.
The Minister for Local Government and the Victorian Electoral Commission has been informed of the resignation.
Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Cr Chris Raeburn said it had been a pleasure working alongside Cr Likos.
“I am sure that you will all join me in thanking her for her service as a Councillor and the work she has undertaken in the community,” Cr Raeburn said.
“We wish Cr Likos all the best for her future endeavours.”
Due to the Lake Nagambie Ward being represented by two Councillors, a countback of votes will be undertaken, assuming that one or more candidates from the last election are eligible to be candidates for the purpose of the countback.
The countback will be conducted by the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) in accordance with Division 8 of the Act.
“We will provide further details regarding the timing of this process as well as further information around the selection of a new Deputy Mayor,” Cr Raeburn said.
