ARTBOX moves to Strathbogie featuring artist Bruce Hargrave
ARTBOX is travelling to Strathbogie and will house several exhibitions at its new location in the grounds of the Strathbogie Memorial Hall.
The first exhibition to be displayed in the new location is entitled ‘Bruce’s Strathbogie ARTBOX’ by Bruce Hargrave.
Bruce said the exhibition depicts many identifiable local buildings and landscapes from the region.
The exhibition will officially open with an event on Sunday 7 April from 2.30pm by Shepparton Art Museum’s Development Manager Carmel Johnson.
“All of the paintings are presented in a popular size and framed in Tasmanian oak,” he said.
Bruce is an active member of the Watercolour Society of Victoria and a keen watercolour artist.
“Watercolour is a compelling addiction with its many possible outcomes, with the simplest of materials,” he said.
Bruce describes his style as “impressionist/realist” and has had 12 successful major solo exhibitions.
As well as painting the beautiful landscape which surrounds us in Strathbogie Shire, Bruce loves to capture many of the area’s iconic buildings, hotels and houses.
Mr Hargrave said 20 per cent of all sales from the exhibition will be donated to The Euroa Citizens’ Band who will also play live at ARTBOX on Saturday 20 April.
ARTBOX is being brought to Strathbogie Shire with Creative Victoria grant funding.
About the artist
Bruce grew up in Melbourne’s West Brunswick and after training for teaching he graduated in Economics at Monash University. He went on to teach in the Wimmera before taking the position of Education Department Liaison Officer with the Australian Broadcasting Commission. On the completion of his Bachelor of Education he worked as a resident supervisor at a secondary teachers’ college hostel and also as a resident master at Wesley College before moving to Northeastern Victoria to teach, including a period of art teaching. Bruce still maintains his Euroa country house and strong community ties.
One of Bruce’s greatest joys is to be at work painting either in his Albert Park studio with front verandah city views or in Euroa looking over to Balmattum Hill.
