Strathbogie Shire has a new Council
The October election results for Strathbogie Shire are in and the declaration of successful candidates are now known.
Strathbogie Shire’s Interim CEO Tim Tamlin congratulated all candidates who nominated for the 2024 election to represent the community, and he now provides the results as announced today by the Victorian Electoral Commission.
Successful candidates for the seven Councillor positions are;
Scott Jeffery
Fiona Stevens
Claire Ewart-Kennedy
Vicki Halsall
Laura Binks
Gregory Carlson
Clark Holloway
‘I congratulated the new Councillors and reiterated my commitment to supporting them to function well as a team, and to foster strong and positive working relationships with Council officers.
‘This is really an exciting time for our community, and I am looking forward to getting to know each of them as we work through a comprehensive transition program,’ said Mr Tamlin.
‘Returning to an elected Council is something our community has been keen to see and my focus over the next few months will be to ensure our new Council is fully briefed on our operations as well as having a firm understanding of their roles and responsibilities under the Local Government Act and the Code of Conduct.
Following the declaration of results the newly elected Councillors will immediately begin a comprehensive transition program, including mandatory training from the Victorian Local Governance Association prior to the swearing in ceremony on 12 November.
A Statutory Council meeting will be held on 19 November to elect a new Mayor. They may also elect a Deputy but are not required to fill that role.
‘My responsibility is to set them up to succeed, and over the next few months they will be focused on setting the priorities for the Council,’ Mr Tamlin said.
Some of the first things on their agenda will be to review and update our key strategic documents, including:
- A Community Vision
- A 2025-29 Council Plan
- A Financial Plan and Asset Plan, and
- The Revenue and Rating Plan.
‘I look forward to working in partnership with the new Councillors throughout my term,’ he said.
