Milestone marked for Shire pool/spa registrations

25 Jan 2023

Council is congratulating the community on its efforts to register pools and spas after a change to legislation in late 2019.

Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Cr Laura Binks said a whopping 500 pools and spas had now been registered with Council.

“Under legislation introduced by the Victorian Government in December 2019, all permanent pools and spas must be registered with Council,” Cr Binks explained.

“In addition, you may not be aware that any relocatable pools or spas erected for three days or more are also required to be registered and fenced in accordance with the current pool barrier standard.”

The top five locations for pool/spa ownership in Strathbogie Shire include:
5. Longwood (15)
4. Violet Town (36)
3. Avenel (48)
2. Nagambie (96)
1. Euroa (130)

Cr Binks reminded the community that it was incredibly important to follow legislation which had been introduce to combat the rate of children drowning.

“Consistently, each year, the single most common location for children aged 0 to 4 years to drown is backyard pools.

“Keep the little ones safe, pool and spa barrier compliance is essential, especially at this time of the year.”
