#GreatNewsThursday: Townships to get festive facelift thanks to Council’s Christmas Decoration Grants
The streets of Strathbogie Shire will shine bright and merry this festive season after townships were awarded Council’s Christmas Decoration Grants.
Earlier in the year, Council called on community groups to apply for a grant of up to $5000 to use for the purchase and installation of outdoor Christmas decorations.
Council received imaginative and festive applications and Mayor Cr Laura Binks said it was exciting to see how the displays would come together.
“So, while you are out and about enjoying Christmas light displays in houses across the Shire this year, be sure to take a look at what is on offer in each town too,” Cr Binks said.
“There’ll be awesome lighting displays, window displays, decorations and more.”
Cr Binks explained the grant guidelines encouraged applications to consider the environment by selecting decorations that can be used again.
“We also asked for applicants to consider decorations with minimal impact on the environment,” she said.
“The grants are a great way to brighten our townships and create further outdoor activation which is something our communities have told us they are eager for.
“We have heard, through our community engagement, that activation of public spaces is something that is important to people.
“We look forward to seeing the displays during the festive season which will no doubt bring a smile to people’s faces.”
