Road safety signs under review

A number of road safety signs recently installed on Harrys Creek Rd, Euroa Strathbogie Rd and Longwood Ruffy Rd will be removed in the coming weeks following feedback from residents.

The yellow and black chevron signs were installed as part of the TAC-funded Safer Local Road and Streets Program, but residents have expressed concern about the number of signs and their impact on visual amenity.

Strathbogie Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Rachelle Quattrocchi said the number of signs would be reduced.

“We didn’t get this right and we’re going to fix it,” she said.

“We thank everyone who contacted us to share their concerns. We’re working with the contractors to ensure signage along the road is in accordance with the Australian Standard. We’re reviewing the signage configuration and many of the signs will be removed.”

Ms Quattrocchi said there was not sufficient consultation with the community prior to the works starting, and Council would review its processes.

“It’s important that we engage with our community on issues that will impact them, and on this occasion that didn’t happen. For that I apologise.

“That’s not the level of engagement and service we’re aiming to provide, so we’re reviewing our project management processes to ensure there is appropriate consultation in relation to road works and other infrastructure projects moving forward.”
