Winter opens with snow in Strathbogie Ranges

1 Jun 2022

Snow in some parts of the Strathbogie Ranges was a majestic sight on the first day of winter today (Wednesday, June 1).

Strathbogie township had a light flurry of morning snow; residents on nearby Tames Rd which heads into the Strathbogie State Forest woke to a white sprinkling; and a blanket of snow was reported at 9am at Mt Strathbogie (further into the forest and outside our Shire).

There was also mid-morning buzz on social media about some snow at Mt Wombat, but by early afternoon we believe only icy remnants of the white stuff remained.

While we’re not sure if the cold snap means more snow and ice is on the way, we urge Shire residents and visitors to rug up and drive carefully.
