Swoop the Big Barrwarrang welcomes AFL Premiership Cup
The AFL Premiership Cup is on a tour with winning side Collingwood and they made sure to stop in and visit Euroa’s giant magpie sculpture.
In celebration of the Collingwood Magpie’s 2023 premiership success, the cup has travelled throughout the country providing members and supporters with the opportunity to hold it.
Of course, the cup stopped into Euroa’s giant 3.5m magpie sculpture – Swoop the Big Barrwarrang – to pay a visit.
Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Cr Laura Binks said it was a fantastic opportunity to promote Euroa’s magpie after it was installed in Euroa’s Seven Creeks Park earlier this year.
“The project was a huge culmination of a successful bid for Council’s Pitch My Project funding by the Euroa Chamber of Business and Commerce and Euroa Community Action Group (ECAG), she said.
“Council then called for expressions of interests from artists and the community selected its favourite piece from the five shortlisted sculptures.”
Since its installation, the sculpture has also been officially named following an extensive callout for suggestions.
“The winning name – Swoop the Big Barrwarrang – was selected by the Chamber and ECAG and recently announced at the Euroa Agricultural Show,” Cr Bink said.
“We were so excited to host the 2023 Premiership Cup at the site which has proven to be a popular drawcard for tourists – some of who we can only assume are Collingwood fans!”
