Strathbogie CEO resigns

3 Apr 2024

The CEO of Strathbogie Shire Council, Julie Salomon, has today announced her resignation effective from 4 July 2024.

Strathbogie Shire Administrator Peter Stephenson said Ms Salomon’s tenure has been pivotal in leading the organisation through a transformative period of growth and development.

‘During her tenure, Julie navigated the organisation through turbulent times, beginning with her arrival in 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. She also managed challenges such as floods, severe storms, and addressing unacceptable Councillor behaviour, which led to the Minister for Local Government Melissa Horne, suspending the remaining Councillors.

‘As CEO Julie achieved remarkable results including saving $2 million on the Violet Town Landfill rehabilitation by successfully lobbying the Environmental Protection Authority to reclassify the site as low risk.

‘She took pride in overseeing major community-driven infrastructure projects and upgrades, such as the Rockies Footbridge, the Nagambie Foreshore Walk, streetscape enhancements in local towns, and the establishment of toilet facilities in others,’ Mr Stephenson said.

Ms Salomon also fostered cost-saving partnerships with Mansfield, Benalla, and Murrindindi Councils, as well as a tourism collaboration with Mitchell Shire and Greater Shepparton City Council.

‘Throughout her tenure, Julie implemented best practice communications strategies to encourage engagement, notably through a 120-strong Community Panel, and initiated the ‘Pitch my Project’ initiative, which has funded over 30 major projects throughout the shire.

‘I was first appointed to the Strathbogie Shire Council as a Monitor and then followed my appointment as the Administrator. On a personal note, I found Julie to be most professional and collegiate and she leaves with my thanks and best wishes.

‘With Julie’s resignation, and organisational transition, it prompts us to focus on selecting the best candidates for the October Local Government election, as well as initiating the search for a new CEO,’ Mr. Stephenson concluded.
