Nagambie Active Youth Hub and Nagambie Netball Court Redevelopment officially opened
The Nagambie Active Youth Hub and Nagambie Netball Court Redevelopment have been officially opened on Friday November 12.
Victorian Parliamentary Secretary for Sport and Regional VictoriaDanielle Green MP joined Councillors and Council staff in proceedings to officially open the dynamic new spaces.
The $590,593 project was jointly funded by Strathbogie Shire Council and the Victorian Government’s 2020-21 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund and contains an array of exciting features.
These include:
- Social Lawn
- Park Entrance
- Table Tennis tables
- Social Spaces
- Line Marking for games
- Basketball Half Court
- 2 – 3m High Climbing Wall with soft-fall sand
- Flat Bank with Hip, Jersey Barrier and Sub Box
- Skatepark
Strathbogie Shire Council Nagambie Lakes Ward Councillor Reg Dickinson said it was fantastic to open the facility officially.
“This area provides a fantastic space for youth to test their sporting skills, but the grassed social areas also provide a place for young people to relax with their friends,” Cr Dickinson said.
“The skatepark has been designed with several different levels of difficulty for the beginner to the more experience skateboarder which means there really is something for everyone to enjoy.”
The Nagambie Netball Court Redevelopment was also officially opened.
The $200,700 redevelopment was a jointly funded project between the Victorian Government’s Country Football and Netball Program, Strathbogie Shire Council, Nagambie Football Netball Club and Tabilk Junior Football Netball Club.
“The redevelopment included new acrylic surface on the courts; electrical cabling for a future lighting upgrade, improved drainage around the court and carparking area and the construction of a new coaches and officials box on the southern side of the courts,” Cr Dickinson said.
“We look forward to seeing these facilities put to good use as football and netball clubs start to engage in their training program for the 2022 season and even more so when the season begins next year.”
Parliamentary Secretary for Sport and Regional Victoria Danielle Green MP said with grassroots sport and recreation back in full swing, now more than ever growing communities like Nagambie needed quality facilities they could depend on.
“Sport and active recreation is not only good for our physical and mental health, it brings people together and builds communities in good and tough times, that’s why projects like these are so important,” she said.
“Better sport and recreation facilities make it easier for Victorians to get back to local sport and recreation and lead healthy and active lifestyles.”
