Elm Tree Removal in Seven Creeks Park

25 Nov 2025

Strathbogie Council contractors have removed five mature elm trees and several saplings in Seven Creeks Park as part of ongoing pest and disease control works.

The works were deemed urgent under the council’s vegetation management plan as the trees were showing signs of decay and there was a risk they could endanger people using the park’s popular walking tracks.

Elm trees are susceptible to Dutch elm disease, which is spread by elm bark beetles. Council treats the elm trees in Kirkland Street every two years to try to reduce the risk of Dutch elm disease, but trees along the creek were not able to be treated due to their location.

Council understands the importance of consulting with stakeholders and the community about works in a public space. Contractors became available to undertake this work at short-notice and Council apologises that it was unable to inform the community in advance.

The trees will be replaced by natives in a more sustainable location at a future planting season.

Works will also be completed to provide pedestrian railing along the bank in the coming weeks.
