Applications Now Open for Strathbogie Shire’s 2025 Community Leadership Program

28 Jul 2025

Strathbogie Shire Council is calling on passionate locals over the age of 18 to take the next step in their leadership journey with the launch of its 2025 Community Leadership Program.

This free, engaging program is open to anyone over the age of 18 with an interest in leadership—no prior experience required. Whether you’re already active in your community or simply curious about how to make a difference, this opportunity is designed to support you in growing your confidence, skills, and impact.

Strathbogie Shire’s Community Leadership Program 2025 is proudly funded by the State of Victoria through Emergency Recovery Victoria’s Recovery Hub Grant Program.

The program will equip community leaders—whether new, emerging or established—to build resilient and connected communities, address local challenges, prepare for emergencies, and consider decision-making that aligns with the needs and values of the community.

“Leadership doesn’t come from having a title—it comes from showing up, being curious, and wanting to create positive change,” said Scott Jeffery, Deputy Mayor of Strathbogie Shire Council. “This program is about empowering everyday people to lead with integrity, purpose, and connection.”

Over the course of six in-person workshops, participants will explore practical leadership tools in areas such as governance, strategy, policy, public speaking, and community engagement. They’ll also develop skills to lead during emergencies and strengthen community resilience.

Key features of the program include:

  • Six interactive workshops for a small group of up to 20 participants
  • Hands-on learning and shared experiences from October to December 2025
  • A celebratory graduation event to reflect on and showcase participant growth
  • A focus on real-world leadership values, including integrity, inclusion, accountability and collaboration

Participants will experience the full program together, building strong connections and a shared sense of purpose.

“This is about building leadership from the ground up,” said Deputy Mayor Jeffery. “If you care about your community and want to be part of shaping its future, we encourage you to apply.”

Applicants must be available to attend all six workshops, which are thoughtfully designed to broaden perspectives, build practical leadership capacity, and encourage community-led action.

Applications open 30 July and close Monday, 1 September 2025.
