22 Sep 2025

Strathbogie Shire Council is making it easier for local households to take control of rising energy costs, with the launch of the Goulburn Murray Solar Savers program and a free upcoming webinar.

The Cost of Living Crisis: Can having a Home Energy Assessment save you thousands? webinar will be held on Friday 10 October at 12 noon. The 45-minute session will feature Romney Bishop from 10 Star Homes and Grace Davis, Council’s Climate Change Action Officer, who will explain how energy assessments can help households identify savings and improve home comfort.

The event is free, but bookings are essential to receive login details.

The webinar complements Council’s participation in the new Goulburn Murray Solar Savers program – a regional initiative designed to take the guesswork out of switching to solar and other energy-saving products.

Through an easy-to-use online portal, residents and businesses can request multiple quotes from vetted local suppliers for a range of products, including:

  • Solar PV systems and battery storage
  • Energy-efficient heating, cooling and hot water systems
  • Induction cooktops
  • EV chargers
  • Insulation and draft proofing
  • Home energy assessments

Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Claire Ewatr-Kennedy said the initiative gives residents confidence and support when making decisions about energy upgrades.

“We know people want to reduce their energy bills, but it can be overwhelming trying to figure out what’s best and who to trust,” Mayor Ewart-Kennedy said.

“Goulburn Murray Solar Savers connects residents directly with trusted installers, backed by local councils, and helps them access government rebates with confidence.”

The program is a regional expansion of Melbourne’s successful Solar Savers initiative and now includes six councils: Strathbogie, Mitchell, Murrindindi, Greater Shepparton, Alpine and Indigo.

Residents and businesses can register their interest at:

The program will run over several years, supporting the community to transition to more sustainable, affordable energy solutions while easing cost-of-living pressures.
