Helen Brook Returns to ARTBOX with “Subtle Movements” Exhibition – August 2025

25 Jul 2025

Strathbogie Shire Council is pleased to announce the return of celebrated regional artist Helen Brook to the ARTBOX gallery this August with her latest exhibition, “Subtle Movements.”

Having grown up on a farm in central Victoria, Helen has long been captivated by the simple sights and sounds of the farm and the garden. Her art explores the subtle movements and natural colours that occur all around us – the greys among greens, the reds, pinks and whites within the same flower – all constantly shifting, growing, and changing.

In this new collection, Helen captures her sheep as they pause and glance her way before moving on, or the flowers in a vase just before they begin to wilt. Her works are about holding onto that quiet moment – just one moment at a time.

“Nothing complicated,” Helen says, “just one moment at a time.”

Mayor Claire Ewart-Kennedy welcomed Helen’s return to ARTBOX:

“Growing up on a farm in central Victoria, Helen brings an deep understanding of country life to her work. Her gentle observations – a sheep’s glance, a wilting flower – are the kinds of moments we all recognise and treasure in regional communities.”

Helen’s practice spans more than thirty years since graduating with a BA in Fine Arts in 1990. She works across printmaking, painting, sculpture and felting, and has exhibited in a wide range of galleries, art spaces – and even paddocks – across Melbourne and regional Victoria.

At the heart of Helen’s work is a quiet observation – a gentle reminder to look at what’s in front of us and to notice what matters.

“Subtle Movements” will be on display in ARTBOX from July 30 to August 25, 2025 at 60 Hill Street, Longwood.
