Goulburn River remains closed in places
Council needs to correct information recently published that the Goulburn River has reopened.
The Goulburn River – from 50m upstream of Chinaman’s Bridge to the Goulburn Weir – remains closed.
The Goulburn River – from 50m upstream of Chinaman’s Bridge to Hughes Creek – is now open.
Council is working hard to ensure it is safe to reopen and we expect this will occur at midday on December 22, 2022.
The reopening will include an exclusion zone near Chinaman’s Bridge.
A structural assessment of Chinaman’s Bridge has told us it in dangerous and will collapse.
Council cannot and will not compromise people’s safety.
At Kirwan’s Bridge we are waiting for the results of the safety assessment.
After we receive this information, we will be able to make an informed decision on reopening the bridge to traffic and the waterway underneath this structure.
We understand this is frustrating, but we urge river users to understand the seriousness of this to people’s safety.
Water patrols will be occurring during the weekend.
We encourage you to please watch our website and social media channels for the most up-to-date information.
