Have your say on our Draft Governance Rules
Strathbogie Shire Council is seeking community feedback on two more draft documents as part of a series to be prepared new requirements under the new Local Government Act 2020.
Council’s draft new Governance Rules outline how Council meetings will run, how Council decisions will be informed through participation by the community, the Election (caretaker) Period policy and the procedures for staff, Councillors and committee members when identifying and declaring disclosing conflicts of interest.
Strathbogie Shire Mayor Cr Amanda McClaren urged residents to have their say by visiting the website at www.strathbogie.vic.gov.au and clicking on the Have Your Say button.
“The new Governance Rules have to replace our existing Meetings Procedures Local Law, which has been in place since 2014,” Cr McClaren said.
“It has provided us with the opportunity to enable more public participation in Council meetings and makes our processes around such things as disclosures of conflict of interest more transparent.”
Council has also prepared a new local law relating to the use of Council’s Common Seal, the mark that something has been approved to be used on documents through a Council resolution.
This brief local law repeals our existing Meetings Procedures Local Law No 1 of 2014, which will to be replaced by the new Governance Rules on 1 September 2020.
“These two draft documents are key in ensuring we achieve high standards of good governance,” she said.
“This means having clear and consistent processes for involving people who are affected by the decisions we are making. The benefit to having good processes is that it leads to better outcomes for our community.”
Hard copies of these documents can be picked up from our Customer Service Centres at 109A Binney Street Euroa and 293 High Street, Nagambie during office hours. Electronic copies can be found on our website.
Feedback must be received in writing by 5pm on Wednesday 19 August, 2020.
Submitters can ask for an opportunity to make a verbal presentation, or have someone make the presentation on their behalf, to Council at a meeting to be held at the Community Conference Centre, Bury St Euroa at 4pm on Friday, 21 August 2020.
