Residents of Euroa and surrounds in need of better internet services fear not – NBN is coming soon.
The National Broadband Network has been busy installing infrastructure of above and below ground equipment at nine, ‘fibre to the node’ (FTTN) cabinets in and around the Euroa township.
A Fibre Access Node (FAN) facility will also be located inside the Telstra Exchange building on McGuinness Street in Euroa.
The main cabinets being installed are powered hubs that are capable of connecting between 300-400 homes in fixed-line areas.
They house equipment which transmits the high-speed broadband signals, with the distribution and local cables entering the node from underground.
The nodes/micronodes are green in colour and stand on a concrete plinth and are fed by the fibre network and connect into the existing copper network.
Below are the seven node and two micronode locations around Euroa, all located within the road reserves (nature strips):
33 Templeton Street (Node)
62-64 Tarcombe Street, but physically located on Vidler Street (Micronode)
124 Binney Street (Node)
15 Weir Street (Node)
19 DeBoos Street, but physically located on Williams Street (Node)
5 Balmattum North Road (Micronode)
Opposite 30 Frost Street, buy physically located on Rowe Street (Node)
24A Brock Street (Node)
3 Mansfield Road (Node)
While the NBN installation is still ongoing, it will be a while yet until residents can benefit from the improved internet connectivity.
Mayor Amanda McClaren said Strathbogie Shire Council were pleased to see the residents of Euroa will benefit from improved high speed internet services with the recent roll-out of NBN in Euroa.
"We recognise the importance of internet connectivity and mobile phone coverage for our communities and will continue to lobby for improved services for our Shire residents," she said.

Strathbogie Shire Council had a successful weekend at the Good Food and Wine Show from 2-4 June, promoting the region’s fantastic food and wineries.
The show is the largest, longest-running and most distinguished consumer food and wine show in Australia.
Under Council’s ‘Love Strathbogie’ banner, Tahbilk, Maygars Hill and Mitchelton wineries attended for the second year running with newcomers Baddaginnie Run, The Ministry of Chocolate and The Weekend Local showcasing their finest products to thousands of enthusiastic and engaged consumers.
Customers attend the show with the intention of discovering new brands, products and destinations which provides a great opportunity for the Shire to promote itself as a destination for quality wine and fantastic food and produce.
Mayor Amanda McClaren was very impressed by the impact and interaction that she, the Councillors and the staff were able to have on shoppers.
"We were delighted to showcase the Strathbogie Shire and some of the fabulous produce from our area," she said.
"The display looked fabulous and gave staff and Councillors the opportunity to raise the profile of our Shire to thousands of potential visitors and new residents.
"Conversations about the many places to visit in our region and our close proximity to Melbourne enticed people to come and visit in the future.
"The New Home Buyers initiative in our Draft Council Plan also sparked interest in people considering entering the housing market and promoted moving to our region."
Stephanie Tame, daughter of The Weekend Local’s Dayle Tame, was blown away by the amount of exposure the show provided for the family business.
"People were really interested in learning about our business and there was an eagerness to support small businesses as opposed to the larger corporations," she said.
"The show was great in promoting The Weekend Local brand and getting the word out there about food and wine in the Shire as a whole."
Mitchelton Wines events manager Renae Costantini was also really impressed with the outcomes of the expo and was excited to be accompanied by The Ministry of Chocolate this year.
"The Ministry of Chocolate was a great draw card for Mitchelton this year; they were a fantastic addition to the wines and gave the stall something unique," she said.
"The show is definitely a great way to promote the region and tying the wineries and food together is a great way to advertise the area and attract people to the region."
It was also a great opportunity for The Ministry of Chocolate to promote the upcoming Chocolate Festival at Mitchelton on 20 August.
The weekend was incredibly busy for councillors and staff, with 3000 Love Strathbogie showbags given away to customers.

How healthy would you say you are right now? Do you feel safe living in the Strathbogie Shire?
These questions and more will be asked in Council’s Liveability Survey, which asks for significant, community input into the development of the new Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan 2017-2021.
Council is required, under the Victorian Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, to develop a Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan every four years.
The Liveability Plan will outline priorities for Council, in partnership with local services, to improve health outcomes for people working, studying and living in the Strathbogie Shire.
Strathbogie Shire will be working with service providers and private enterprise in the health and wellbeing sectors to help gauge community sentiment on what is needed to help our community thrive.
Maybe you might need more walking paths in your town or want more accessible infrastructure – whatever the case may be, Council encourages everyone to think about health more broadly, not only primary health issues, but also healthy eating and active living.
Council want to know your health and wellbeing values, challenges and what you think could be improved or built on in our community to make it an even better place to live.
The survey, which you will receive this week, has set questions targeted at the individual but there is an opportunity for you to make further comments if there is a health and wellbeing issue that is important to you or your community that you would like to share.
Strathbogie Shire Mayor Amanda McClaren said residents and communities may feel they have been surveyed and asked for input in a number of different areas by Council lately, however it is important to have your say in this process.
"We encourage you to share your thoughts on the liveability of your area and what could help to make it even better," she said.
Council has run successful community consultation sessions throughout the Shire and will continue to engage with relevant stakeholders and utilize the survey data to formulate the draft Liveability Plan.
The draft plan will go out for public exhibition, where there will be another opportunity for community to provide input and feedback.
The final version of the Liveability Plan will be presented to Council by the end of October.
Council will be collecting surveys up until the end of June – you can complete a hard copy version and return to Council or you can complete the survey online via Survey Monkey on Council’s website.

If 100 years is something to be proud of, making it to 125 years is even more impressive.
This year, the Euroa Urban Fire Brigade celebrates 125 years since its formation in 1892.
To help mark the occasion, the brigade is hosting a weekend of events starting on Friday, 9 June with the first legal fireworks display in Euroa for about 25 years.
Strathbogie Shire residents are invited to experience a rare event in the region, that of a CFA Torchlight Parade with firefighters marching through the main street of Euroa.
The march will start at the Council Office on Bury Street and will continue into Binney Street, through the roundabout, turning right on Railway Street and right again on Slee Street, concluding at the Euroa Memorial Oval, where the fireworks will begin.
Shire residents are reminded that temporary road closures will be in effect from 7.30pm to 8.30pm on the following streets:
Residents who live in the township are also reminded that the fireworks may cause disruption to pets.
The celebrations continue on Saturday, 10 June with a Gala Dinner at the St John’s Mercy Centre from 6.30pm.
Tickets are still available at the Euroa Newsagency at $30 a head, which includes a two course meal and live entertainment.
Finally, the festivities will conclude at the Euroa Fire Station on Sunday, 11 June from 10.30am with an Open Day with firefighting appliances on display, complete with a sausage sizzle provided by the brigade, jumping castle and a heap of children’s activities for the little ones.
