Regional Awareness Tour promotes inclusion

Monday, 10 September, 2018

Victoria Police and Special Olympics Australia are calling on Nagambie and surrounds to get involved in their East Regional Awareness Tour, promoting the importance of inclusion and acceptance for people living with an intellectual disability.

The torch run will be making its way to the Nagambie Primary School (31 Goulburn Street) on Monday, 17 September at 2pm.

Victoria Police and Special Olympics Australia are also looking for local community members living with a disability who would like to be a part of the torch run.

The tour shares the Flame of Hope with communities across regional Victoria, with the issues of inclusion, physical activity and wellbeing at the forefront.

Strathbogie Shire Mayor Amanda McClaren encouraged the community to show their support.

“People living with an intellectual disability are often marginalised in their communities,” Mayor McClaren explained.

“Sport is a great way to address this social issue, as it provides great social and physical opportunities, and I really encourage people to get behind this.”
