Indigenous community invited to discuss Australia Day forum

Friday, 29 September, 2017

Strathbogie Shire Councillors have voted to eliminate the need for a Shire-wide Australia Day event as of 2018.

Local Australia Day celebrations will continue to take place in Avenel, Euroa, Longwood, Nagambie, Strathbogie and Violet Town on 28 January, 2018.

At next month's Statutory Meeting, Councillors will decide the location of the Australia Day citizenship ceremonies.

However, an additional amendment, to meet with members of the Indigenous community in a Council-hosted forum to discuss changing the date of Australia Day in the Strathbogie Shire, was added to the resolution supported by Councillors Amanda McClaren (Mayor), Kate Stothers (Honeysuckle Creek Ward), Deb Swan (Lake Nagambie Ward) and Alistair Thomson (Mt Wombat Ward) and not supported by Seven Creeks Ward Councillors Mick Williams and John Mason and Malcolm Little (Hughes Creek Ward).
