Footpath trading is an important part of the retail environment and can significantly add to the ambience and enjoyment of an area.
In regulating footpath activities, Council aims to provide a safe environment for people to move by creating a pedestrian zone for people of all abilities.
To ensure clear pedestrian access, footpaths of less than 2.9 metres cannot be used for trading purposes.
Council has a responsibility to regulate footpath trading activities. In doing so, Councill will be flexible with the issuing of permits to protect public safety but encourage diverse activities to take place.
We have created an information sheet with guidance on the conditions around footpath trading. This information will assist you to understand the requirements for placing objects on the footpath.

The Footpath Trading form will ask for your preferred method of payment. Payment will occur after the form is submitted. If taking your form into Council you will be able to submit and pay at the same time.
Options include:
An annual Footpath Trading permit will cost $88 for a single item or $142 for multiple items (2020/21 fees).
Once we receive your application, one of our officers will assess it. If your application is successful, you'll receive your footpath trading permit via email.
We usually process footpath trading permit applications within five business days of receiving your payment.
A permit is required to sell goods or services from a roadside within Strathbogie Shire.
To apply for a permit complete the application to trade from a road form and return with payment to Council.
Please allow at least two weeks for processing of your application.
The fee set for the 2020/2021 financial year is $88.00
To busk on any council road or footpath a permit is required.
