The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) is funded by the Commonwealth government. The Programme subsidies a range of aged care services to keep client fees reasonable and affordable. It is an entry level home help program for older people who need some help at home to live independently. These services help individuals live independently and autonomously, and avoid premature or inappropriate admission to residential care.
Independence refers to the capacity of people to manage the day to day activities of their life. The aim of the CHSP is to help older people live as independently as possible - with a focus on working with you, rather than doing for you. It is about building your strengths, capacity and goals to help you remain living independently and safely at home.
