Calling on young learner drivers to sign up for the L2P Program
Strathbogie Shire Council and Berry Street Shepparton are encouraging eligible young drivers to sign up for the VicRoads L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program.
The program assists learner drivers aged under 21 years who do not have access to a supervising driver or vehicle to gain the driving experience required to apply for a probationary licence.
Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Cr Laura Binks said young people who signed up would be matched with fully licensed volunteer mentors and have access to use a sponsored vehicle to gain supervised driving experience.
“The best part about L2P is that it is free for eligible young people, funded by the TAC,” she said.
“It’s a fantastic way for young learner drivers who struggle with access to a supervising driver or vehicle to build up the required 120 hours to go for their probationary driving test.
To be eligible for the program, learner drivers must be aged 16-20 years, hold a current learner’s permit and do not have access to either a vehicle, a supervising driver, or both.
“If you meet these criteria, you or your parent, school or community group can contact Berry Street on (03) 5822 8100 or email L2PHume@berrystreet.org.au,” Cr Binks said.
“You can also register to become a volunteer mentors as well. To do this you must be over 21 years, hold a current full Victorian driver’s licence and meet requirements of our local L2P program.”
