$40K to improve water safety
Strathbogie Shire Council has received $40,000 to improve water safety in Lake Nagambie following the October 2022 floods.
The Better Boating Victoria (BBV) Waterway Grant will be used to provide crucially important signage around Lake Nagambie and the Goulburn River.
Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor, Cr Laura Binks, said the October 2022 floods washed away important waterways signage and buoys which provide zoning, speed and safety information to recreational boaters.
“As Waterways Managers, we take our role and responsibility seriously and are proud to work with Victoria Police, the Victorian Fishing Authority and Maritime Safety to deliver a safe boating environment,” Cr Binks said.
“This $40,000 grant, and the signage will help return the Nagambie Waterways to a safe and user-friendly area.
“We welcome today’s announcement and thank Minister for Outdoor Recreation Sonya Kilkenny MP for attending and committing these valued funds.”
Deputy Mayor Paul Murray and Crs Dave Andrews and Reg Dickinson welcomed the Minister, along with representatives from Better Boating Victoria, Victorian Fisheries Authority and fisher Paul Thomas.
“We invite everyone to visit Nagambie and discover the wonderful waterways including Lake Nagambie, the Goulburn River, backwaters and the Goulburn Weir,” Cr Binks said.
Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said: “We’re proud to invest in better fishing and boating across the region – bringing locals and visitors back to the water”.
