Dogs wandering on public land, including roads, should be reported to Council on 1800 065 993 at any time of day or night.
Under clause 31 of Community Local Law No. 6, a person in charge of a dog on any road or in any public place in a residential, township, business or industrial zone must ensure that the dog is secured by a chain, cord or leash unless the area is an off-leash area designated and sign-posted for the purpose.
Greyhounds, declared dangerous dogs and restricted breed dogs are not permitted to be off their lead in any public place at any time, as per clause 32(1)(b). Penalties apply for failure to comply.
Under clause 30(2) of Community Local Law No. 6, a person in charge of a dog on any road or Council land must carry a suitable receptacle for the removal of the dog's excrement. Penalties apply for failure to comply.
At its meeting on 18th August 2009 Council resolved to prohibit the presence of dogs at the Violet Town market.
Under this Order, dogs are prohibited from entering and/or remaining in the grounds of the Violet Town Recreation Reserve (including adjoining roads) within the area bounded to the north by Honeysuckle Creek and to the south, west and east by Tulip, Caulfield and Foreman St on any day that the Violet Town market is operating.
