| What is Planning?
The Planning and Environment Act 1987, provides for Council’s to develop the implement a Planning Scheme to control the use and development of land. The Planning Scheme contains rules and regulations that determine how land can be used and how land can be developed. The controls aim to provide for the most appropriate use and development of the land from an environment, economic and social perspective.
Planning Schemes provide for such things as identifying residential areas and encouraging compatible uses, setting aside quality agricultural land for agricultural activity, supporting the efficient use of infrastructure and protecting important heritage buildings. Each control in Victoria is responsible for preparing and administering a Planning Scheme.
