Home>Shire of Strathbogie - Farming Zone Review
| Over the past year, Strathbogie Shire Council has been working with Parsons Brinckerhoff & RM Consulting Group and the local community to develop a Sustainable Land Use Strategy to manage the ongoing function of the rural areas of the shire. This project arose out of an understanding by the Council and community that the broad application of the Farming Zone across rural land in the shire was not responsive to the needs, opportunities and aspirations of all areas.
This project determined that the future of the Strathbogie Shire rural areas should reflect the diversity of landscape, natural assets and strategic location. This strategy proposes that Strathbogie Shire will remain fundamentally a rural shire with an agricultural future.
In addition the strategy identifies the value of other rural land uses such as tourism, and the important natural environmental assets of the Shire. It proposes that the value of the rural areas around Nagambie for tourism be promoted. It also seeks to protect the unique environmental and landscape qualities in the west of the shire and in the ranges.
The strategy proposes that: - the Farming Zone remains the most appropriate rural zone for the majority of the rural areas within the Shire to support agriculture; - the Rural Conservation Zone be applied in the Strathbogie Ranges and west of the Goulburn River; - the Rural Activity Zone be applied around Nagambie to support potential tourism uses; - the Rural Living Zone be applied in accordance with the adopted Rural Residential Strategy.
There will be opportunities to meet with Council staff and the project consultants through a number of sessions where you may seek clarification or further information regarding the Draft Sustainable Land Use Strategy. Details of these are listed below.
