Welcome to the Strathbogie Shire Council
The Strathbogie Shire is located a short 1˝ hour drive North East from Melbourne along the Hume Freeway. We are also known as “Victoria’s Thoroughbred Homeland” due to the presence of an ever expanding horse industry famous for raising, preparing and selling some of Australia’s best racehorses.
Many visitors each year appreciate the plentiful natural and developed tourist sites throughout our region, whilst also enjoying and our local events, such as the Euroa Show and Shine, Heads of the River Regatta in Nagambie, and markets including the Violet Town Market (popular for its fresh produce) which has developed a large Melbourne fan base.
Tourism and events are important to the region with visitors each year appreciating the unique, natural and developed tourist sites throughout the municipality. Council is an active member of Goulburn River Valley Tourism (a joint tourism initiative between the municipalities of Greater Shepparton, Mitchell, Strathbogie and Murrindindi).
