Australian National Flag to fly at Half-Mast

BLACK SATURDAY BUSHFIRES

On Saturday 7 February 2009 the Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria claimed 173 lives, 414 people were injured and over 2,030 hours and 3,500 structures were destroyed with thousands more suffering damage.

As a mark of mourning and respect, and in accordance with protocol, the Australian National Flag should be flown at half-mast all day on Wednesday 7 February 2018 from all buildings and establishments occupied by Victorian Government departments and affiliated agencies. Other organisations are welcome to participate.

 

MR RONALD WALKER AC CBE

On 30 January 2018, Ronald Joseph Walker AC CBE passed away. Mr Walker enjoyed an extensive and respected career, as Lord Mayor of Melbourne from 1974 to 1976, Commissioner for Melbourne’s 1996 Olympics bid, Chairman of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, Chairman of the Melbourne Major Events Company, Chair of Fairfax Media and Chairman of the Microsurgery Foundation of the Bernard O'Brien Institute of St Vincent's Hospital. These are just a few of his many achievements.
