Recycling operations currently unchanged

Friday, 2 February, 2018

Residents of Strathbogie Shire may have heard recent reports of pressures impacting the recycling industry.

These current pressures are due to changes to the global recycling market, particularly China, imposing tighter restrictions on the quality and quantity of recyclable materials, culminating in a ban on the importation of sorted recyclable materials.

These changes are not unique to Victoria and are impacting recycling worldwide.

Strathbogie Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Steve Crawcour said “We wish to advise Strathbogie Shire residents that, at present, this in not impacting on Council operations.”

“We ask our residents to continue recycling as normal as collection services currently remain unchanged.”

“Strathbogie Shire Council is working closely with its contractors and the state government to keep up to date on this matter and we will continue to keep the community informed on progress.”
