Euroa Fire Brigade celebrates 125 years in 2017

Monday, 5 June, 2017

If 100 years is something to be proud of, making it to 125 years is even more impressive.

This year, the Euroa Urban Fire Brigade celebrates 125 years since its formation in 1892.

To help mark the occasion, the brigade is hosting a weekend of events starting on Friday, 9 June with the first legal fireworks display in Euroa for about 25 years.

Strathbogie Shire residents are invited to experience a rare event in the region, that of a CFA Torchlight Parade with firefighters marching through the main street of Euroa.

The march will start at the Council Office on Bury Street and will continue into Binney Street, through the roundabout, turning right on Railway Street and right again on Slee Street, concluding at the Euroa Memorial Oval, where the fireworks will begin.

Shire residents are reminded that temporary road closures will be in effect from 7.30pm to 8.30pm on the following streets:

  • Bury Street, between Kirkland Avenue and Binney Street
  • Binney Street, between Bury Street and Railway Street
  • Railway Street, between Binney Street and Dunn Street
  • Slee Street, between Railway Street and Dunn Street

Residents who live in the township are also reminded that the fireworks may cause disruption to pets.

The celebrations continue on Saturday, 10 June with a Gala Dinner at the St John’s Mercy Centre from 6.30pm.

Tickets are still available at the Euroa Newsagency at $30 a head, which includes a two course meal and live entertainment.

Finally, the festivities will conclude at the Euroa Fire Station on Sunday, 11 June from 10.30am with an Open Day with firefighting appliances on display, complete with a sausage sizzle provided by the brigade, jumping castle and a heap of children’s activities for the little ones.
