“Aliens in the Attic” 87 Minutes [PG] Animation / Adventure

This script is very good, satirical and inventive in the line of “Gremlins”, “The Goonies” and “ET”!
Kids love adventures where the adults remain clueless. The “aliens” have a gizmo that turns adults into zombies whose movements are controlled by a joystick. The children, who are the heroes of the movie, have to keep the aliens from getting close to the adults. The kids are computer geeks whose skills help them when they come up against these alien critters. The joystick gizmo is the ultimate Game Boy. This film has energy and inventiveness ~ and will suit adults and children!

“Julie and Julia” 123 Minutes [PG] Cooking and Writing

This movie is based on two true stories ~ Julia Child, a culinary trailblazer who in 1961 introduced the “servantless” cooks of America to the enjoyment of cooking ~ and Julie Powell, a would-be writer and frustrated clerical worker. Julie’s husband has been posted to France and to give
herself something to do sets out to produce 524 dishes in the space of a year. She takes a cordon bleu course in cooking and discovers the pleasures of French food. She also writes a blog about her experiences. Meryl Streep is delightful as Julie Child, as is Amy Adams as Julie.

November 28 and 29
“(500) Days of Summer” 95 Minutes [M] Romance

Tom Hansen reflects back on the year that he knew Summer Finn. For Tom, it was love at first sight when she walked into the greeting card company where he worked. Soon, Tom knew that Summer was the woman with whom he wanted to spend the rest of his life. Although Summer did not believe in relationships or boyfriends - Tom and Summer became more than just friends. Tom could always count on the advice of his two best friends, McKenzie and Paul. However, it is Tom's adolescent
sister, Rachel, who is his voice of reason. After all is said and done, Tom is the one who ultimately has to make the choice to listen or not. Starring Zooey Deschanel & Joseph Gordon-Levitt

December 5 and 6
“Funny People” 147 Minutes [MA] Comedy

This film has a beguiling candour and reflectiveness, it is mature and an intriguing bittersweet
experience. Adam Sandler is cast as George, a comedy star who has accumulated all the comforts provided by fame and money and he has lost the urge to please anyone but himself. He is
diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia which will kill him unless an experimental course of drugs kills it first! George reconnects with Laura, the woman he thinks he should have married, but Laura is married to an Australia Salesman (played by Eric Bana). And therein is the story—some good laughs which make for a fun night out! Starring Adam Sandler, Leslie Mann and Eric Bana.

“Mao’s Last Dancer” 117 Minutes [PG] Real Life / Drama

This movie is an epic rags-to-riches story of Li Cunxin, who grew up in dirt poor China, then defected to the US in dramatic circumstances in the early 1980’s, became a top international dancer, married an Australian ballerina and moved to Melbourne where he is now a successful stockbroker. The story is notable for its contrasts and if for nothing else the film is worth seeing just for the dancing of Chi Cao who plays the role of Li as an adult ~ his solos are thrilling. A movie not to be missed. Why not share this with a friend as a Christmas celebration!
